v1.70: Fabric Studio
What's New
Fabric Studio: A workspace for people who don't write code. Turn it on in Settings → General and the file tree and terminal give way to your projects and the chats inside them.
Use Fabric Without an Account: Skip sign-in and use Fabric with only your own API keys or a local model. That session keeps its own separate data, and hosted models and remote access wait until you sign in.
Run Models on Your Own Computer: Fabric checks your hardware, suggests a model that fits, then downloads, verifies and starts it in one click. With a local model selected, summaries and helper agents stay on your machine.
Account Switching: Switch accounts from a dropdown in Settings instead of logging out, and beta updates are now open to everyone.
One Queue Across Devices: Your phone, desktop and web share one queue per chat, so messages run in order and a stop or reload on one device no longer leaves another stuck.
Edit and Regenerate Everywhere: Edit and Regenerate work from the phone and web as well as the Mac, and prompts you type on the Mac appear live on your phone.
Shared Permission Mode: Each chat has one permission mode that every device follows, and new chats start in the mode you last picked.
Code Map Settings: The Code Map gets its own settings tab for the naming model, a daily background limit and automatic builds, with a progress bar and Stop and Resume.
Parallel Subagents: A new setting chooses how many helper agents run at once, from 1 to 16, with the rest waiting in a queue.
Simpler Settings: Skills, MCP, Hooks, Terminal and Benchmark now sit under one Advanced section, and the Files and Terminal panels are optional.
Office and PDF Files: Fabric reads, creates and edits Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files through built-in skills, on Mac and Windows, with nothing to install.
App Notifications: Installed apps can notify you with a card while you're in Fabric or a system notification when you're away, plus a count until you open it.
Quit Confirmation: Quitting while a reply or routine is running now asks first and lists what would be interrupted.
Step-Through Questions: Questions asked several at a time step through with Next and Back, and the auto-answer countdown links to turn auto-answer off or back on.
Clickable File Names: File names in chat replies open the file at that line, and chat and Markdown previews keep their scroll position when you switch tabs.
Multi-Repository Source Control: Source Control works in a folder that holds several repositories, with a picker to switch, and New File and New Folder are named right in the file tree.
Live Slash Commands: Custom slash commands appear in the / menu as soon as you add or edit them, with no restart.
Phone: Browse Your Computers: Pick one of your computers to browse its chats and search their titles and message text.
Phone: Background Replies: Chats keep generating in the background, a "Your reply is ready" notification takes you back, and unsent text stays in each chat.
Phone: Dictation and Photos: On iPhone the mic in the chat box dictates a prompt and pasting a photo works, and the pencil starts a new chat on any phone.
Changes
Code Map Naming: The Code Map now names everything with your Helper Model or a low-cost model you pick, and no longer summarizes every file in the background, which could burn through your rate limit.
Phone App 1.2: The new Fabric phone apps work best with this version — update your Mac to get live prompts plus Edit and Regenerate from your phone.
Support Contact: Error reports now point you to [email protected].
Removed: The file tag preprocessing setting and the automatic chat cleanup timer are gone, and Fabric no longer runs any built-in routine automatically in the background.
Bug Fixes
Fixed the cost shown after each reply not matching what you're billed, with the discount for cached input applied.
Fixed messages sending on every keystroke after an automatic send.
Fixed Escape closing Settings or other panels stopping a running chat, and Send not working while Fabric waits on a background task.
Fixed Fabric failing to load on Intel Macs, where the database, Code Map, file watching and image tools had stopped working.
Fixed long-running tasks exhausting memory, oversized command output being allowed through, and a crashed window staying blank instead of reloading.
Fixed long unattended tasks losing their way through summaries, dropped connections and provider cuts, and a model that goes quiet mid-task is now asked for its status.
Fixed replies cut off mid-sentence starting over, and half-written actions running instead of being re-issued.
Fixed local models being cut off as stalled on long prompts, and truly stuck turns now giving up after about five minutes.
Fixed turns that use helper agents failing unexpectedly or losing the end of their answer.
Fixed garbled or doubled replies.
Fixed model actions written as plain text showing up as stray markup, and empty results now reaching the model as a clear "no output" note.
Fixed a single step spending minutes on hidden reasoning.
Fixed slow typing in the chat box, New Chat's first message landing in the wrong chat, scrolling up snapping back down during a reply, and a malformed question card crashing the chat.
Fixed projects sharing terminals, Copy to Prompt failing in some shells, and the Files panel not updating while an agent works in the background.
Fixed text starting with / not sending unless it names a command, and a /skill sent from the phone or CLI now shows what you typed plus its skill card.
Fixed onboarding showing an "API key missing" error without a Fabric account, and Settings showing Connected when the Fabric key is missing.
Fixed the Mac dictation hotkey silently stopping after a day of use, and the built-in browser reloading endlessly on OneDrive and SharePoint links.
Fixed task test runs failing on Windows, and the onboarding profile scan now looks in Windows locations.
Fixed indexing your chat history pegging the CPU.
Fixed phone and web chats with one very large message opening blank, duplicate desktop replies from phone turns, and usage totals that didn't match.
Fixed troubleshooting copies of failed requests being saved to a shared temporary folder; they now stay private and capped at 20 files.
Fixed Code Map and code search in installed builds, the map asking for curation after every launch or sticking on "Building…", and rebuild always being offered.
Fixed light theme readability for code highlighting, table borders, scrollbars, copy buttons and slash-command badges.
Fixed a hook exiting without reading its input crashing the app, and the Mac's name on the phone showing a stray ".localdomain".
Fixed PNG images being labelled as JPEG with some providers.
Fixed phone replies making the screen jump, and expired sessions now asking you to sign in again.
Fixed phone accounts sharing chats, computers and ambient recordings; ambient audio is deleted once transcribed.
